
Women’s Golf Finishes First Round at Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

Cougars stand in 12th in tournament featuring one of nation’s top fields
ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Houston Women's Golf stood in 12th place following the First Round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at University of Georgia Golf Course on Friday evening.
The Cougars recorded a team score of 308 on the 6,317-yard, par-72 layout. The tournament features 12 of the nation's Top-40 programs, including seven of the Top 20.
Senior Annie Kim posted a 74 and was tied for 23rd to lead the Cougars, while sophomore Delaney Martin was tied for 40th at 76. Sophomore Nicole Abelar tied for 48th after the First Round at 678, while senior Maria Jose Martinez was tied for 62nd at 80. Senior Ariana Saenz was tied for 78th at 84.
No. 3 Texas and No. 16 Texas A&M were tied for the team lead at 293. No. 17 Arkansas came in at No. 3 at 294, while No. 4 South Carolina was in fourth at 295. No. 12 Alabama (299), No. 13 USC (299), No. 38 Louisville (300), No. 31 Georgia (301), No. 22 Mississippi (302) and No. 30 Mississippi State (303) rounded out the Top 10.
Alabama's Polly Mack, USC's Michael Morard and Mississippi State's Julia Lopez Ramirez were tied for the first-day lead at 2-under 70. Louisville's Hana Ryskova and Texas A&M's Hailee Cooper were tied for fourth at 71.
The Second Round begins Saturday morning with the final 18 holes Sunday.

For Saturday's Second Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Mississippi, beginning off No. 10 at 12:17 p.m. (CDT).
Saenz begins the day at 12:17 p.m. (CDT) with Martinez (12:26 p.m.), Abelar (12:35 p.m.), Martin (12:44 p.m.) and Kim (12:53 p.m.)

From there, Houston takes its first steps in the postseason when it competes at the American Athletic Conference Championships, set for April 17-19 at Pinehurst #6 – Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C.
The Cougars will learn their NCAA postseason fate during the Selection Show, airing at 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, on Golf Channel.
Seventy-two teams and 12 individuals not on those teams will compete at six NCAA Regional sites across the nation. Those venues include Stanford Golf Course (Stanford, Calif.); Vanderbilt Legends Club (Franklin, Tenn.); The Championship Course at UNM (Albuquerque, N.M.); University of Michigan Golf Course (Ann Arbor, Mich.); Karsten Creek Golf Club (Stillwater, Okla.) and Seminole Legacy Golf Club (Tallahassee, Fla.).
