Late game surge helps Houston beat Tennessee Tech

The women's basketball team beat the Golden Eagles 63-55 in the second round of the WNIT
HOUSTON – The Houston women's basketball team forged ahead in the final moments to take down Tennessee Tech, 63-55 in the second round of the WNIT on Sunday in the Fertitta Center.
Laila Blair led the team with 16 points while Tatyana Hill added 14 points and Tiara Young posted 11. Young also contributed a career-high 12 rebounds with three steals and one block.
The Cougars (18-15, 7-9) went down early taking an 8-0 deficit to open the game. However, Houston started to chip away at the lead finishing the quarter down 15-10. The two teams battled through the second exchanging the lead twice before the Golden Eagles edged the Cougars 29-28 going into halftime.
Tennessee Tech led the entire third quarter but Houston was not far behind keeping the game within four points at most. The fourth quarter was highlighted by nine-straight points from the Cougars to close out the game. An Eryka Sidney 3-pointer gave Houston the lead to eventually take the win 63-55.
