Senior earns honor after tying for third with back-to-back 66s in final two rounds at Cabo Collegiate
CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – After tying for third at the Cabo Collegiate Invitational, University of Houston senior golfer Alexander Frances was honored as the American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.
Alexander fired three straight rounds in the 60s to set a 54-hole career low and earned the first consecutive Top-Five finishes of his award-winning career. He won the first collegiate title of his career at the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in February.
Frances' total bested his previous low of 205 at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational on Feb. 26-27, 2018.
After opening the tournament with a 69, Frances followed with 66s and only one bogey in each of the final two rounds. The Stege, Denmark, native was able to go low quickly, draining three consecutive birdies in the Second Round and adding four birdies in a 5-hole stretch in Tuesday's Final Round.
This season, Frances leads the Cougars with a 71.50 scoring average, 10 rounds of par or better and six rounds in the 60s.
