
Cougars Shine at Spring Break Invitational

HOUSTON – Houston track and field set new meet records and registered 15 first-place finishers at the outdoor-opening Houston Spring Break Invitational from the Tom Tellez Track at the Carl Lewis International Complex on Thursday.
Houston's Quivell Jordan recorded a personal best and meet record with a mark of 14.08 in the men's 110-meter hurdles. Naomi Taylor added another meet record in the 100-meter hurdles (13.41) as well as Devin Vallejo in the men's 3000 meters (8:34.75).
The men's 4x100-meter relay squad, consisting of Edward Sumler IV, Jordan Booker, Nicholas Alexander and Shaun Maswanganyi ran a first-place 39.15, ranking first nationally. On the women's side, the 4x400-meter relay team of Zarie Dumas, Cecilia Tamayo-Garza, Michelle Mayer and Iman Babineaux posted a time of 3:48.11, good enough for second nationally.
Priscilla Adejokun put forth a powerful effort in the women's hammer throw, shattering the nation's top mark at 64.61 meters. In his first outing in the collegiate 400 meters, Adam Mason paced all competitors with a time of 48.97.
In the women's long jump, Jayla Fields posted her first collegiate top finish, at 5.89 meters. In the triple jump, Destiny Lawrence put forth a mark of 12.59, ranking second nationally while on the men's side, Jadon Brome took the top spot with a distance ranking third nationally at 15.24 meters.
