The Cougars trailed 2-1 entering the eighth before erupting for four hits while sending all nine hitters to the plate. Alex Lopez tied the game on an RBI-single and Samuel Benjamin put Houston (11-6) on top with a dribbler to third base, resulting in an infield RBI-single.
Â
Houston shortstop Ian McMillan added insurance, clearing the bases with a three-run triple into right field. The Cougars put together 12 hits including batting .375 (6-for-16) with runners in scoring position. Zach Arnold and Lopez added three hits each.
Â
Cougar closer Ben Sears (3-0) earned the win, tossing 2.1 hitless innings. Houston pitching stranded 11 Texas A&M (10-6) runners including leaving the bases loaded in the first and sixth innings, limiting the Aggies to a .154 average (2-for-13) with runners in scoring position.
Â
Houston tacked on two runs in the ninth as Anthony Tulimero drove in Arnold (double) on an RBI-single. Ryan Hernandez followed, shooting an RBI-single through the left side to plate Lopez (single).
Â
Trailing 1-0, Houston's Brandon Uhse lined a leadoff double over the third base bag in the sixth inning, stretching his hit streak to 13 games. Uhse came home to score two batters later on Lopez's RBI-groundout, tying the game at one-all.
Â
Houston starter Kyle LaCalameto allowed three hits and one run alongside one walk and four strikeouts. The southpaw held the Aggies off the scoreboard until the fourth inning when a leadoff walk and stolen base set the stage for a Dylan Rock RBI-single.Â
