
Alexander Frances Leads Men’s Golf at Cabo Collegiate

Senior shoots 66 for second straight day and ties for third at 12-under 201
CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – University of Houston senior Alexander Frances fired a 66 for the second straight day and tied for third with a score of 12-under 201 at the Cabo Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
Starting his day off No. 10 on the 6,807-yard, par-72 Cove Club Golf Course, Frances made three straight pars before sinking his first birdie of the day on the par-5 13th hole. After two more pars, the Stege, Denmark, native drained another birdie on No. 16 before making five straight pars.
Frances drained back-to-back birdies on Nos. 4-5 and quickly rebounded from his lone bogey of the day on No. 6 with consecutive birdies again on No. 7-8. He joined Baylor's Johnny Keefer in a tie for third.
With his score, Frances posted a career-low 54-hole total, besting his previous low of 205 at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational on Feb. 26-27, 2018. He also enjoyed the first consecutive Top-Five showings of his collegiate career.
Junior Marcus Wochner posted the Cougars' low round of the day with a 65 after bettering his score by at least four strokes for the second straight day.
Beginning off No. 12, the Holte, Denmark, native jumped out to a quick start with birdies on two of his first three holes. After enduring his lone bogey of the day on No. 17, he regrouped with a birdie on No. 1 and then made eagle on the 574-yard, par-5 second hole to move to 4-under.
Wolte then drained two birdies in a 3-hole stretch on Nos. 4-6 before capping his round with five straight pars to tie for 35th at 211.
Senior Braxton Watkins enjoyed a 71 in the Final Round and tied for 38th at 212. Senior Andrew Gibson tied for 70th at 223, while junior Austyn Reily tied for 72nd at 225.
As a team, the Cougars fired a score of 277 in Tuesday's round to tie with #2 Arizona State for ninth at 840.
#21 Vanderbilt captured the team title with a score of 820 to finish two shots in front of #6 Texas Tech. #41 Florida State (823), #7 Arkansas (824), #16 Mississippi (830), #10 Tennessee (831), #3 Oklahoma State (832) and California (836) rounded out the Top-Eight leaders.
Vanderbilt's Cole Sherwood earned medalist honors with a score of 196, thanks to a Final-Round 61. Stanford's Michael Thorbjornsen finished second at 200.

Following the Cabo Collegiate Invitational, the Cougars will send two student-athletes to compete at the Colin Montgomerie HBU Husky Invitational on March 7-8 at Augusta Pines Golf Club in Spring, Texas. More information about that recent addition to the Cougars' schedule will be released soon.
From there, the team will compete at the Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La., on March 14-15 before returning home to play host to Houston's All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas, on March 21-22.
