Women’s Golf Hosts ICON Invitational Starting Monday

Fans invited to free tournament with 36 holes Monday and Final Round on Tuesday at Golf Club of Houston
HUMBLE, Texas – The University of Houston Women's Golf continues its spring season as it plays host to the ICON Invitational at Golf Club of Houston, beginning Monday morning.
Teams will play 36 holes beginning with an 8 a.m., shotgun start Monday with the Final Round teeing off at 8 a.m., Tuesday, on the 6,342-yard, par-72 layout.
Fans are invited to the tournament, which is free and open to the public.

THE LINEUP
Under the leadership of Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Gumm, the Cougars will compete with senior Ariana Saenz, senior Annie Kim, sophomore Nicole Abelar, redshirt freshman Brooke Morales and senior Maria Jose Martinez.
Sophomore Delaney Martin and redshirt freshman Anna Economon will compete as individuals.
Saenz posted three straight rounds under par at the UCF Challenge on Feb. 6-8 in the Cougars' spring opener and leads the team with six rounds of par or lower this season.
This season, Kim leads the Cougars with a 73.27 scoring average and is tied for second among the Cougars with five rounds of par or better. The Seoul native tied for fourth at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 4-6, 2021.
Martinez finished among the Top-20 leaders after shooting 70-69 over the final two rounds of the Schooner Fall Classic on Sept. 25-27, 2021.
Morales and Economon will make their collegiate debuts at the ICON Invitational after award-winning prep careers. The two sat out the 2020-21 season as redshirts within the program.

The Cougars will compete against student-athletes from Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan State, Mississippi, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Purdue, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech and USC.
UP NEXT
Following the ICON Invitational, Houston will compete at the MountainView Collegiate at MountainView Country Club in Tucson, Ariz., on March 18-20 before playing in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on March 25-27 at UGA Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
From there, the Cougars take their first step in the postseason when they compete at the American Athletic Conference Championships, set for April 17-19 at Pinehurst #6 – Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C.
