Cougars remain winless in tournament play heading into final day
Game 1
No. 1-ranked Oklahoma (9-0) set the pace early and never looked back as it scored at least one run per inning in an 13-0 victory over the Cougars.
In the first inning, Oklahoma catcher Kinzie Hansen put the Sooners on the board first with a 3-run home run to lead 3-0. Oklahoma scored five runs in the second inning including back-to-back home runs by designated player Jocelyn Alo and third baseman Jana Johns as it extended its lead to 8-0.
Designated player Kylee Gibson broke a no-hit bid for the Sooners in the third inning to record UH's lone hit of the game.
Making her season debut in her first season with the Cougars, junior Mattison Boyd tossed 1.2 innings from the start of the fourth and recorded three hits and five walks. Freshman Hannah Blincoe made her collegiate debut and threw 0.1 innings to bail the Cougars out of the fifth inning with the bases loaded. Blincoe faced soon-to-be crowned NCAA career home run record holder Alo to an infield pop-up in her first action.
Game 2
A six-run fourth inning propelled Texas State past UH 8-2 in the second of two games for the Cougars on Saturday.
The Cougars escaped an early mess in the top of the second as they picked up two outs with the bases load to hold the Bobcats scoreless. Catcher Kati Ray Brown scored the first run of the game after right fielder Paige Hulsey was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning.
With two outs in the top of the fourth inning, center fielder Piper Randolph put the Bobcats on the board with an RBI single down the middle to level the score at 1-1. An unearned run followed by a grand slam from third baseman Sara Vanderford boosted Texas State to a 6-1 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Brown scored on a throwing error by shortstop Hannah Earls after a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 6-2.
The Bobcats tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 8-2.
