
Men’s Golf Opens Spring Season at Border Olympics

Two-day, 54-hole tournament tees off Monday morning at Laredo Country Club
LAREDO, Texas – The University of Houston Men's Golf program opens its 2022 spring season when it tees off at the Border Olympics, beginning Monday morning at Laredo Country Club.
The Cougars will be part of a 14-team field, which includes Baylor, UTSA, Sam Houston State, New Mexico State, Lamar, ULM, Michigan, Illinois State, Louisiana Tech, Abilene Christian, Rice, Houston Baptist and Bowling Green. Texas also will have student-athletes competing as individuals.
Teams will play 36 holes Monday with an 8 a.m., shotgun start on the 7,204 -yard, par-72 course with the Final Round beginning Tuesday morning.

ABOUT the COUGARS
Under the leadership of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars will be represented by senior Andrew Gibson, senior Alexander Frances, junior Marcus Wochner and senior Braxton Watkins.
Redshirt freshmen Jacob Borow and Drew Murdock and freshman Julio Rios-Brache will play as individuals.
This season, Frances leads the Cougars with a 73.08 scoring average and posted a seventh-place finish at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate on Sept. 12-14. The 2021 All-American Athletic Conference performer also has posted four rounds of par or better, tying for the team lead with Gibson, Borow and Rios-Brache.
Gibson is a close third with a 73.58 average, while Watkins ranks third at 73.75.
Rios-Brache, Borow and Murdock opened the spring season as individuals at the Houston Classic earlier this month at the Golf Club of Houston. Rios-Brache lowered his scored with each round and earned a career-best fourth-place finish with a score of 217, while Murdock finished among the Top-10 leaders.

PAIRINGS
For Monday's play, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Lamar, ULM and Michigan beginning with an 8 a.m., shotgun start.
Gibson begins the First Round off No 6 at 8 a.m., with Frances (first group off No. 7), Wochner (second group off No. 7), Reily (No. 8) and Watkins (No. 9) following..
Borow will begin off No. 17 with Murdock (first group off No. 18) and Rios-Brache (second group off No. 18) following.
Teams will continue play following the First Round in the same groups and are expected to begin the Second Round around 1 p.m., Monday

Following the Border Olympics, Houston returns to action when it competes at the Cabo Collegiate on the Ocean Course at Cove Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on Feb. 27-March 1.
From there, the Cougars will play host to their All-American Intercollegiate on March 21-22 at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas, before competing at the prestigious Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian Golf Club on March 28-29.
