Houston Announces 2023 Softball Schedule

Houston softball Head Coach Kristin Vesely announces a 51-game regular season slate
HOUSTON – University of Houston softball head coach Kristin Vesely announced the Cougars' 2023 schedule which features 29 home games and 20 games against NCAA Tournament teams.Â
Â
Houston starts its 2023 slate with a tournament at the Cougar Softball Stadium. The Cougars play their first game against Virginia on Feb. 9, and the weekend includes contests against South Dakota State and Nebraska, who both made the 2022 NCAA Tournament as well as Delaware and Lamar. The Cougars close the weekend on Feb. 12 against Delaware.Â

The Cougars remain at home Feb. 17-19 for another tournament. The weekend's matchups include two against Washington, two against Morgan State and a tilt against Hofstra.Â

Vesely's squad closes out February with another tournament at home, running Feb. 23-26, and featuring Houston Christian, Illinois, Pitt and Sam Houston.Â

The Cougars kick off their road schedule on March 1Â with a contest against Texas A&M in College Station followed by a trip to Tempe, Ariz., for a tourney at Arizona State. The Sun Devil Classic will include games against New Mexico, Charlotte, Michigan State, Boise State and Arizona State, who made the Super Regionals in 2022.Â

Following a weekend at Tarleton State from March 10-12 and a midweek matchup at McNeese on March 15, Houston travels to future Big 12 opponent Baylor for a three-game weekend series March 17-19. The Cougars close out their nonconference schedule with a doubleheader against Stephen F. Austin on April 4 and another midweek game against McNeese on April 11.Â

In conference play, the Cougars kick off the league slate on the road against Memphis (March 24-26). The team's home conference schedule includes East Carolina (April 6-8), Tulsa (April 21-23) and South Florida (May 5-7), while Houston will travel to a pair of 2022 Tournament teams in Wichita State (April 14-16) and UCF (April 28-30).Â

The American Tournament will be played in Tampa, Fla., at USF from May 11-13.Â
