Volleyball's Tullos Named Defensive Player of the Week

HOUSTON – Senior Rachel Tullos earned her second American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors of the season, the league announced on Monday.

Houston (23-2, 14-0 The American) extended its win streak to 15 games with a pair of conference sweeps last week. The team has now posted five straight 3-0 victories and hasn't dropped a set since Oct. 21.

Tullos finished last week with 10 total blocks, earning two solos and eight assists for 1.67 blocks per set. She also tallied three digs and 11 kills with a .556 hitting percentage in addition to three aces.

Tullos started the week with a six-block, seven-kill performance in the Fertitta Center against Tulane. The stellar day for the middle blocker included a .636 hitting percentage on 11 attempts. She followed it up with six blocks and four kills two days later on the road at Cincinnati.

Senior Abbie Jackson also earned a spot on the honor roll for her efforts last week. In addition to breaking the program's career service aces record, Jackson tallied 28 kills (4.67 per set) and a .296 hitting percentage with 16 digs.

UP NEXT
The Cougars continue a three-game road swing with a pair of matches next week at Tulsa and Wichita State. Houston starts against the Golden Hurricane on Friday, Nov. 11 before heading to Wichita on Sunday, Nov. 13.
