
Burckel Home Run Gives White Series Win

Two-run homer produces White team win
HOUSTON – Sophomore Brandon Burckel gave the White team a 3-1 advantage ultimately winning the series 4-3 on Monday night at Schroeder Park.Â
Game 1
White 9 | Red 5
The White team got out to an early 6-0 as multiple players tallied hits in the first two innings including home runs from Nickens and Post. Despite the deficit, the Red team rallied putting up four runs in the third frame.
In the top of the final inning, the White team expanded its lead on a two-RBI double from junior Nick Collins followed by a single from sophomore Brandon Burckel to bring Collins home. Even with the White team's bolstering 9-4 lead, a Zach Arnold dinger for the Red team brought the score to 9-5. The Red team managed to get runners into scoring position, but it ultimately was not enough as the White team took game one of the series.Â
White 2 | Red 11
The Red team got on the board first in the first inning which was immediately met with a run from the White team to tied the score at 1-1. Although, it was not long before the Red team tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 3-1. In the third frame, with a runner on base Justin Murray sent one over the fence pushing Red's lead to 5-1. But in the subsequent inning, White's starting pitcher Malachi Lott answered back hitting a home run for the White team making the score 5-2.Â
However, the Red team continued to dominate adding six more runs in the final two innings and ultimately taking the win.Â
Game 3Â
White 6 | Red 10
Sophomore Brandon Burckel put White on the board first for a 2-0 advantage but it was not long before the Red team answered back making the score 3-2. In the second consecutive game, Malachi Lott sent one over the fence for the White team and tied the game at 3-3. But, a grand slam from Jack Duffy pushed the Red team out in front 9-5. Lott put an exclamation point on the game with his second home run for the White team but it was was not enough and the Red team took the win 10-6.Â
Game 4Â
White 7 | Red 6
The White team came out swinging to start game four, taking an early two-run lead. Sophomore Brandon Burckel added to White's lead with a two-run homer to make the score 4-0. The Red team managed to get on the board with one run before Brandon Uhse tied the game with a three-run dinger at 4-4. The Red team continued to score adding on two more to take its first lead of the day 6-4.
However, it was not long before Burckel belted another two-run homer to tie the game at 6-all. In the bottom of the final inning, Drew Bianco was hit by a pitch before stealing second. With Bianco in scoring position, Jacob Schoenvogel put the ball in play and brought Bianco home for the walk off win, 7-6.
Game 5Â
White 3 | Red 1
The White team started early and put a run on the board in the top of the first inning. The two team's pitchers kept the scoring at bay with no runs crossing the plate in the following two innings but a two-run dinger from Burckel gave the White team a 3-0 edge.Â
In the second to last inning, two doubles from the Red team put them on the board at 3-1 but the Red team was unable to catch the White team as they ultimately took the series win.Â
