Pedemonti, Slisane Earn Singles Wins at Rice Invite

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program commenced its weekend at the Rice Fall Invitational with two singles wins and two doubles wins on Thursday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on the campus of Rice.

The Cougars kicked off the day with doubles competition where Sophie Schouten and Elena Trencheva teamed up to defeat BYU's Tina Li and Jacque Dunyon, 6-4. Sonya Kovalenko and Laura Slisane earned Houston's second doubles win of the day against BYU's Xenia de Luna and Avery Pope, 6-4

Following a brief rain delay, Houston began play in singles competition. Slisane earned the first singles victory of the day defeating Rice's Marte Lambrecht, 6-4, 6-3. Azul Pedemonti earned the victory in a tough battle against Rice's Darya Schwartzman in a tiebreaker with set scores of 7-6, 3-6 and 6-4.

The Cougars will continue action 9 a.m., Friday at the Rice Fall Invitational at the George R. Brown Tennis Center beginning with one round of doubles action and concluding the day with singles play.
