Junior Kate Georgiades breaks the program record for digs in a three-set match
TULSA, Okla. – Junior libero Kate Georgiades broke the program record for digs in a three-set match with 34 as the No. 23 University of Houston volleyball team posted their 16th straight win and sixth consecutive sweep in a 3-0 win over Tulsa on Friday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Houston (24-2, 15-0 The American) saw a complete team effort in the straight-set win. The team posted a .383 hitting percentage while limiting Tulsa (11-15, 4-10 The American) to a .152 efficiency. Overall, the Cougars posted 53 assists, tying the program-record for assists in a three-set match that has now been hit three times in team history (Oct. 7, 2007 vs. SMU; Nov. 6, 2006 vs. Rice).
Senior Morgan Janda posted her third straight double-double in the win, tallying 33 assists and 11 digs. Meanwhile, the Cougars had three players tally double-digit kills. Graduate Isabel Theut led the match with 17 kills, senior Abbie Jackson earned 14, and graduate Kennedy Warren recorded 12. Junior Annie Cooke also posted 16 assists in the match. Jackson also passed the 1,500 kill milestone and now sits at 1,506 in her career.
SET ONE
The Cougars battled through a slow start and used a 7-1 run to tie the score at 14-all. Trading points until the score was 20-20, Houston went on a 5-0 run to complete the comeback and win the first set, 25-20.
Theut tallied 10 kills in the first set via a .529 hitting percentage, while Janda posted assists on 12 of the Cougar's 19 kills. Georgiades also earned 13 digs in the match.
SET TWO
Continuing their scoring streak from the first set, the Cougars posted back-to-back points to start the set. A 4-0 run a few points later gave Houston a 7-4 lead and the team never looked back. Another 5-0 run put the Cougars up 12-5 and a 6-0 run further extended the lead to 22-9. Houston would ultimately earn the second set win, 25-11.
The Cougars dominated both sides of the ball in the set. Houston hit .529 in the frame without a single attack error and limited the Golden Hurricane to a .054 hitting efficiency. Jackson led the Cougars with six kills, while Janda posted 12 assists and Georgiades tallied 13 digs.
SET THREE
Looking for a sixth straight sweep, the Cougars wasted no time jumping out to a 10-5 lead. Both teams traded short runs afterwards, but the lead was enough to earn Houston the 25-19 set win and the 3-0 match win.

The Cougars remain on the road for a Sunday match against Wichita State. The match is scheduled for a noon CT first serve.
