Freshman captures first monthly honor of her collegiate career
HOUSTON – University of Houston freshman Moa Svedenskiold was honored as the American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Month for October, the league announced Tuesday.
Svedenskiold earned the first monthly award of her collegiate career with two Top-Six finishes in a week.
The Halmstad, Sweden, native shot par or lower in all six rounds in October with half of those in the 60s and has now shot par or lower in each of her last nine rounds.
She opened her week by sharing the individual championship at the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas, on Oct. 23-24. After starting that tournament with a 72, Svedenskiold closed that event with back-to-back 68s to finish at 8-under 208.
She became the first freshman in program history to earn medalist honors and reached that milestone in only her third collegiate event, setting another school record.

This season, Svedenskiold ranks second among the Cougars with a 70.75 scoring average and leads the team with nine rounds of par or lower, including five in the 60s.
She shared the monthly honor with Tulane's Carla Bernat.
