HOUSTON – The No. 24 University of Houston volleyball team capitalized on a season-high 17 kills from graduate Kortlyn Henderson and double-doubles from senior Abbie Jackson and junior Annie Cooke to defeat Wichita State 3-2 in the Cougars' Dig Pink match at the Fertitta Center on Friday night.
Houston (18-2, 9-0 The American) extended its win streak to 10 games dating back to Sept. 18. Henderson recorded six kills in the frame and Georgiades paced both teams with nine digs.
SET THREE
The Shockers didn't let up in the third set, grabbing a 11-7 lead. Houston fought back, posting a 4-0 run to tie the set at 11-11 by forcing hitting errors by Wichita State with blocks from sophomore Kellen Morin and Jackson. The battle continued to the score of 15-all before Wichita State was able to earn a few short runs of its own to take the set, 25-22.
Georgiades earned six digs in the frame, while Theut and Jackson tied for the lead with four kills.
SET FOUR
The Cougars fought back in the fourth set. Facing a 6-3 deficit, three straight services aces from Cooke tied the frame at 6-6. Eventually, Houston surged with an 8-2 run that solidified the Cougars' lead, earning them a 25-18 set win and forcing a decisive fifth set.
Jackson led the way for the Cougars in the frame, tallying five kills and two aces, while Janda notched eight assists.
