Houston Tennis Begins Spring Schedule in College Station

Cougars fall to Aggies, look to next two matches at home
HOUSTON – Houston Tennis traveled to College Station to start the spring season on Saturday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. The Cougars put up a tough fight against the No. 13- ranked Aggies, but came up short on the court.
The Cougars competed first in doubles where the No. 5-ranked pair of Jayci Goldsmith and Tatiana Makarova defeated Houston's Maria Dzemeshkevich and Azul Pedemonti. Houston's second pair of Blanca Cortijo Parreno and Laura Slisane put up a tough fight before falling to A&M's Carson Branstine and Mary Stoiana.

1. #5 Jayci Goldsmith/Tatiana Makarova (TAMU) def. Maria Dzemeshkevich/Azul Pedemonti (HOU) 6-0
2. Carson Branstine/Mary Stoiana (TAMU) def. B Cortijo Parreno/Laura Slisane (HOU) 6-1
3. Jeanette Mireles/Gianna Pielet (TAMU) vs. Sophie Gerits/Gabriella Giraldo (HOU) 5-1, unfinished
At the conclusion of doubles, Houston entered singles play. The Cougars fought hard in hopes of getting a point on the board, but were defeated by the Aggies. However, the tough competition was beneficial for Houston as it looks to the rest of its spring opponents.

Houston will host Louisiana Monroe next Friday at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility at 10 a.m. The Cougars will be back on home courts the next day at 10 a.m. to host McNeese State before traveling for the following two matches.
Fans will have the opportunity to catch the Cougars at home for free six more times throughout the spring.
