Houston Tennis to Host Fall Tournament

Cougars play at home for first time this season
HOUSTON – Houston Tennis will host its fall tournament this weekend at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility. The Cougars will begin play on Friday at 10 a.m. with Saturday and Sunday competition beginning at 9 a.m.
The Houston Fall Tournament will feature North Texas, SMU, Rice, as well as Houston. All four teams will play both doubles and singles throughout the weekend. Fans interested in attending the tournament may do so free of charge.
Coming off a successful weekend at SMU, the Cougars look to continue its strong start to the fall schedule. Cougars who put points on the board against SMU included Laura Slisane, Maria Dzemeshkevich, Blanca Cortijo and Gabi Giraldo in singles play. Meanwhile, doubles point scorers included the teams of Dzemeshkevich and Slisane, Sophie Gerits and Giraldo, and Cortijo and Elena Trencheva.
Points were added to the board against SMU, as well as both Abilene Christian and UT Arlington.
Last season, Houston finished the season with its most conference victories since the 2018-19 season after only playing one American Athletic Conference match in 2020 before the season cancellation. The Cougars ultimately finished with a record of 14-6, 3-2 AAC.

Friday - 10 a.m.
North Texas vs. SMU (Doubles)
Rice vs. Houston (Doubles)
Followed by two rounds of singles competition.
Saturday - 9 a.m.
Rice vs. SMU (Doubles)
North Texas vs. Houston (Doubles)
Followed by two rounds of singles competition.
Sunday - 9 a.m.
North Texas vs. Rice (Doubles)
SMU vs. Houston (Doubles)
Followed by two rounds of singles competition.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will compete at TCU for fall regionals competition on Oct. 14- 17.
