DENTON, Texas – University of Houston junior All-American Karen Fredgaard stood in a tie for 16th following the first day at the Sam Golden Invitational at Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch on Monday evening.
After shooting an even-par 72 in the morning session on the 6,288-yard, par-72 course, Fredgaard fired a 4-under 68 in the Second Round, thanks to a round with only one bogey.
Starting her day off No. 7, the Asserbo, Denmark, native quickly moved under par with a birdie on the par-5 eighth hole and added her second birdie of the round at No. 12. After enduring her lone bogey in the afternoon on No. 13, Fredgaard drained additional birdies on No. 16, No. 2 and No. 4 before closing her day with two straight pars.
COVID senior Ariana Saenz was tied for 31st after posting back-to-back 72s for 144, while senior Maria Jose Martinez was tied for 52nd at 148. Senior Annie Kim was tied for 63rd at 150 with sophomore Delaney Martin tied for 73rd at 153.
Oklahoma State held the first-day team lead at 557 to stand one shot in front of Texas Tech and three strokes ahead of Oklahoma. TCU (563), Texas A&M (564), Tulsa (569), Purdue (571), North Texas (575) and Kansas State (575) rounded out the Top 10.
Individually, Oklahoma State's Caley McGinty stood atop the individual leaderboard at 10-under 134 after back-to-back 67s. Purdue's Kan Bunnabodee, Oklahoma State's Isabella Fierro and Blanca Fernandez Garcia-Pogg of Texas A&M were tied for second at 135 with TCU's Sabrina Iqbal in fifth at 136.
The Final Round tees off at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday.

PAIRINGS
For Tuesday's Final Round, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from UTSA and Kansas State.
Fredgaard will start the day at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, off No. 11 with Saenz (No. 12), Kim (first group off No. 13), Martinez (second group off No. 13) and Martin (No. 14) following.

Following the Sam Golden Invitational, Houston continues its fall season at the Schooner Fall Classic, set for Sept. 26-27 at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla.
From there, the Cougars will tee off at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 4-6 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. The Cougars will join with their UH male counterparts at that event, which will air on GOLF Channel each day.
