Mario Paul selected as Finalist for Gatorade National Boys Track & Field AOTY
HOUSTON – University of Houston Track & Field signee, Mario Paul was announced as the Gatorade Kentucky Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Paul joins incoming freshman, Raven Nunnery as a finalist for Gatorade National Track & Field Athlete of the Year.

In its 36th year of honoring the nation's best, Paul is recognized for excellence not only on the track, but academically. Paul is now finalist for the Gatorade National Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year, set to be announced later this month.Â

Paul is a graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School where he is set a state record in the 300-meter hurdles at the Class AAA state meet, securing a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles and fourth-place finish in the 200-meter. The senior helped to lead his team to a ninth-place finish.  The Houston signee clocked the No. 3 time nationally by a high school athlete in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best 53.27, just shy of his state-record time of 52.23.Â

Off the track, Paul volunteers with the Salvation Army, local food banks and homeless shelters. He strives to make an impact in the community while maintaining a weighted 3.24 GPA.

Paul joins recent Gatorade Kentucky Boys Track & Field Players of the Year Christian Lewis (2019-20, Frederick Douglas HS), Langston Jackson (2018-19, Henry Clay HS), Bryan Hudnson (2017-18, Scott County HS), and Isaiah McCall (2016-17, Bryan Station HS), among the state's list of former award winners.
