Quentin Grimes Selected in NBA Draft First Round
7/29/2021 3:52:00 PM | Men's Basketball
All-American guard taken with No. 25 overall pick by New York Knicks

With his selection, Grimes became the 12th NBA Draft First-Round selection in school history and the first since Greg Anderson was taken with the No. 23 pick by the San Antonio Spurs in 1987.
Grimes was the 44th Cougar to be chosen in the NBA Draft and the first since guard Damyean Dotson was picked by the New York Knicks in the Second Round of the 2017 Draft.
ABOUT QUENTIN GRIMES
Grimes enjoyed an award-winning junior campaign during the 2020-21 season. He helped lead the Cougars to a 28-4 overall record and the program's first appearance in the NCAA Final Four since 1984.
The Woodlands, Texas, native, led the Cougars and ranked third in the American Athletic Conference with 17.8 points per game and finished second on the team with 5.7 rebounds per contest.
He was a unanimous selection for the All-American Athletic Conference First Team and was named the league's Player of the Year, a first since 1993.
With 19.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game, Grimes was named the American Athletic Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player after leading the Cougars to three wins in as many days, including a 91-54 victory over Cincinnati in the Title.

With the completion of the regular season, Grimes received numerous All-America honors, earning Third-Team recognition from the Associated Press, National Association of Basketball Coaches, Sporting News and United States Basketball Writers Association.
He was the first Cougar to earn All-America honors of any kind since Gee Gervin received Honorable Mention in 1999 and became the first Cougar to be named to the first three Teams since center Hakeem Olajuwon was a Consensus pick and Michael Young received Second-Team honors in 1984.
Those weren't the only awards Grimes received in 2020-21. He was one of five finalists for the Jerry West Award, presented to the nation's top shooting guard by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and was named one of 10 Semifinalists for the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy for Player of the Year.
Grimes also was named to the USBWA All-District VII Team and the NABC All-District 24 First Team and was a two-time American Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
