HOUSTON – Houston Football senior offensive lineman Kody Russey was selected to the 2021 Rimington Trophy Watch List, the Boomer Esiason Foundation on Friday.
Russey, a transfer from Louisiana Tech, is one of 40 centers in the nation and one of three in the American Athletic Conference to appear on the watch list. The selection committee worked with Pro Football Focus to narrow down the watch list to 40 candidates.
A native of Burleson, Texas, Russey spent five seasons at Louisiana Tech and made 46 career starts. He was a C-USA All-Conference First Team selection in 2020 and was a three-time All-Conference USA honorable mention pick.
Russey helped the Bulldogs rank first in C-USA and second nationally in fourth-down percentage as well as fourth in the league in both red zone offense and passing offense in 2020.
Russey joined the Cougars in January 2021 and was a preseason fourth-team all-conference selection by Phil Steele Magazine.
The Cougars return 17 starters from last year's squad and open the 2021 season on Sept. 4 inside NRG Stadium for the Texas Kickoff against Texas Tech.
