Nathaniel Mechler Wins Canadian National Title in Decathlon

Cougar alum wins Canadian Decathlon title
HOUSTON – University of Houston Track & Field alum, Nathaniel Mechler recorded 7,701 points to win the Decathlon at the 2021 Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Track & Field Trials.

The former Cougar (2016-19) won the 110-meter hurdles, 100-meter, 400-meter, Pole Vault and the 1500-meter to win the national title in the event. Mechler put on a strong series of performances over two days of competition, closing out the opening day of action with 3,921 points and in second-place. Mechler surged to the top of the standings, following a winning performance in the 1500-meter. Sitting in second-place with one event to go, Mechler clocked a time of 4:28.29 in the event to close out day two of the decathlon with 3,780 points.

Mechler closed out his Cougar career an American Athletic Conference Champion and NCAA All-American in the Heptathlon.
