Houston Student-Athletes Highlight USTFCCCA All-Americans

Cougars conclude NCAA Championships with All-American Certificates
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field program saw 17 individual earns All-American honors after a stellar week of performances at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

First Team All-America honors are awarded to student-athletes finishing among the top-8 in their events, including relays at the NCAA Championships. Shaun Maswanganyi closes out his freshman season at UH as a three-time First Team All-American with certificates in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 4x100-meter relay. Jordan Booker, Travis Collins and Christian Hamberlin also earned First Team honors as members of the UH 4x100-meter relay.Â

On the women's side, Tristan Evelyn, Camille Rutherford, Samiyah Samuels and Naomi Taylor add to their resumes with First Team All-America honors after becoming the first Cougar women to score at the NCAA Championships since 2012 as members of the 4x100-meter relay.

Houston had four student-athletes earn Second Team All-America honors which are awarded to competitors finishing between ninth and 16th-place. Travis Collins earned two Second Team certificates (100m, 200m) and was joined by Jordan Booker (200m), Quivell Jordan (400mh) and Christyan Sampy (Pole Vault). Mikaila Martin (Hammer Throw) and Camille Rutherford (100m) highlighted the Second Team for the Houston women.

Honorable Mention All-Americans are those athletes finishing in 17th through 24th in their respective events. Christian Hamberlin (200m), Benjamin Okafor (Long Jump), Antonio Ruiz (Pole Vault), Iman Babineaux (4x400-meter relay), Zarie Dumas (4x400-meter relay), Payge Side (4x400-meter relay), Aliyah Taylor (4x400-meter relay), Samiyah Samuels (Long Jump) and Brianne Bethel highlight the list for UH.
