Karen Fredgaard to Compete in Arnold Palmer Cup

Denmark native will compete for Team International at Rich Harvest Farms on June 11-13
HOUSTON – University of Houston Women's Golf's Karen Fredgaard continued her award-winning sophomore season when she was selected to compete for Team International during the 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup on Tuesday afternoon.
Fredgaard and Team International will face Team USA on June 11-13 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. The event is a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top male university/college golfers matching the United States against Europe and is the only major tournament featuring men and women playing side-by-side as partners.
Fredgaard will be joined on Team International by Puwit Anupansuebsai (San Diego State), Penny Brown (University of Stirling), Eugenio Chacarra (Oklahoma State), Adrien Dumon de Chassart (Illinois), Isabella Fierro (Oklahoma State), Alex Fitzpatrick (Wake Forest), Allan Hill (National University of Ireland – Maynooth), Bo Jin (Oklahoma State), Agathe Laisne (France), Yuxin Lin (Florida), Ingrid Lindblad (LSU), Pontus Nyholm (Campbell), Virunpat Olankitkunchai (Maryland), Joe Pagdin (Florida), Ana Pelaez Trivino (South Carolina), Julian Perico (Arkansas), Emily Price (Kent State), David Puig (Arizona State), Pauline Roussin-Bouchard (South Carolina), Emma Spitz (UCLA), Hugo Townsend (Boise State), Beatrice Wallin (Florida State) and Lauren Walsh (Wake Forest).
Sofia Aagaard (Cal Poly) and JC Deacon (Florida) will serve as head coaches with Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen (Baylor) and Diana Cantu (Maryland) as assistant coaches.

The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and began at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Orlando, Fla. in 1997.

ABOUT KAREN FREDGAARD
Standing at No. 7 in the latest Golfstat individual rankings, Fredgaard has established herself as one of the nation's premier amateur student-athletes. The Asserbo, Denmark, native leads the Cougars with a 70.27 scoring average and 12 rounds of par or better.
She recently was honored as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, becoming the second Cougar to receive the program's third conference award.
Fredgaard has earned three Top-Five finishes in 2020-21 and captured the first individual title of her collegiate career at the UCF Challenge on Jan. 31-Feb. 2. She was honored as the Golfweek National Player of the Week and The American Player of the Week (the first of two weekly honors in 2020-21) following that performance.
Most recently, she fired a Final-Round 67 to surge into third at 218 at the American Athletic Conference Championships and lead the Cougars as a team to second place.
In April, Fredgaard finished third at the prestigious Augusta National Women's Amateur as only the second Cougar to compete in that elite event.

Fredgaard and the Cougars will compete at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, beginning Monday at University Club in Baton Rouge, La.
This marks the sixth straight season in which the Cougars will compete in the NCAA postseason under Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell.
The low six teams and the low three individuals not from those teams from each NCAA Regional will compete at the NCAA Championships, set for May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
