First Round Postponed at Baton Rouge Regional

Teams to begin postseason with 10 a.m., Tuesday, shotgun start at University Club

BATON ROUGE, La. – Heavy rain led to unplayable conditions and the postponement of Monday's First Round at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional at University Club.
Severe weather moved into the Baton Rouge area late Sunday night with the rain continuing throughout Monday morning. In the afternoon, Regional administrators and coaches made the decision to cancel Monday's action with a 10 a.m., shotgun start expected for Tuesday.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell, the Cougars will be represented by American Athletic Conference Player of the Karen Fredgaard, The American Freshman of the Year Zoe Slaughter, All-American Athletic Conference performers Anne Normann and Delaney Martin and junior Annie Kim.
This is the sixth straight season the Cougars will compete in the NCAA postseason. Houston earned its way into the postseason as an at-large team after finishing at No. 31 in the Golfstat national rankings.
Houston is one of 72 teams to compete at four NCAA Regional sites across the country. Teams are scheduled to play 18 holes each day through Wednesday.
The low six teams and the low three individuals not from those teams from each of the four NCAA Regionals advance to the NCAA Championships, set for May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

FIRST-ROUND PAIRINGS
Tuesday's First Round will begin at 10 a.m., with a shotgun start. The Cougars will be in groups with student-athletes from Oregon State and Miami (Fla.).
Fredgaard will be in the second group off No. 6 with Norman (first group off No. 7), Slaughter (second group off No. 7), Kim (No. 8) and Martin (second group off No. 9) following.

NCAA REGIONAL HISTORY
The Cougars have never missed an NCAA Regional in which the team was eligible to compete dating back to 2015. The program began under Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell during the 2013-14 season with three student-athletes competing as individuals, per NCAA rules.
The No. 8 seed ties as the second-highest postseason seed for the Cougars in their young history. Houston was a No. 8 seed at the 2019 Auburn Regional and competed as the No. 7 seed at the 2018 NCAA Austin Regional.
The 2020 NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In its most recent NCAA postseason appearance, the Cougars finished 11th at the 2019 NCAA Auburn Regional. Leonie Harm and Maddy Rayner tied for 33rd at 222 to lead the Cougars.
Harm is the only Cougar to compete at the NCAA Championships, qualifying as an individual in 2018 and in 2016.
This will be the second time Houston competes at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional at University Club. In 2016, the Cougars finished seventh, while Harm tied for seventh after firing 69s in the First and Final Round to become the first Cougar to qualify for the NCAA Championships as an individual.
