Cougar women move up two spots in latest poll
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field program continues to highlight both the men's and women's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Rating Index as the men sit at No. 11 and the women's team at No. 21.
The Cougars are the only program in The American in the rankings.
The Houston women moved up two spots in the latest rankings from No. 23 to No. 21. Brianne Bethel was a force for the women, running the 18th fastest time in the 200-meter, along with the 21st fastest time in the 400-meter this season. Camille Rutherford, Bethel, Cecilia Tamayo-Garza and Tristan Evelyn combined for the fifth-fastest time in the NCAA this season in the 4x100-meter relay. Mikaila Martin continues to rewrite the record books, shattering her own program record in the Hammer Throw with the 12th-best throw in the NCAA this season.
The Houston men sit at No. 11 in the latest poll following strong performances this past weekend. Travis Collins set a meet record in the 200-meter with the 33rd fastest time among collegians this season at 20.87. Jadon Brome had a strong day in the Triple Jump, securing the 38th best mark in the NCAA this season at 15.48m (50-9.5).
The Cougars will return to action this weekend when the squad heads to College Station for the Texas A&M Invitational on April 9-10 at EB Cushing Stadium.
