University of Houston senior Luke Long shot a 1-under 71 in the Tuesday's Final Round at the Colin Montgomerie HBU Invitational to surge into fifth place.
Long started his day off the right foot with a birdie on the par-5 18th hole on the 7,015-yard, par-72 course at Augusta Pines Golf Club.
Following nine straight pars, he overcame two bogeys in a 3-hole stretch on No. 10 and No. 12 to drain an eagle on the par-5 13th hole. The Fayetteville, Ark., native then capped his tournament with four straight pars.
Long wasn't the only Cougar among the Top-10 individual leaders. Sophomore Trip Morris posted a 54-hole score of 220 and tied for eighth.
Senior Laurence Crea tied for 21st at 223.
UT Rio Grande Valley captured the team championship with a score of 876 to finish five shots ahead of host Houston Baptist. Gonzaga (883), Stephen F Austin (889) and Southeastern Louisiana (891) rounded out the Top-Five leaders.
Individually, New Orleans' Grayson Gilbert defeated Houston Baptist's Marcelo Trevino in a playoff to earn medalist honors. Both players tied at 3-under 213 through 54 holes.
Southeastern Louisiana's Logan Kuehn finished third at 214, while UTRGV's Leonardo Novella finished fourth at 215.

Following the Colin Montgomerie HBU Invitational, Houston will play host to one of the nation's premier collegiate tournaments in the Valspar Collegiate Invitational. This elite event will be held March 15-16 at Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Fla.
From there, the Cougars will close the month of March at the N.I.T, hosted by Arizona at Omni Tucson National Resort in Tucson, Ariz., on March 20-21.
Fans should note that the N.I.T. was a recent addition to the Cougars' schedule.
