Freshman collects first weekly honor of collegiate career after second-place finish at MountainView Collegiate
HOUSTON – University of Houston freshman Zoe Slaughter was honored Wednesday as the American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week.
The Houston native fired three straight sub-par rounds, including a career-low 67 in the First Round to lead the Cougars to a third-place finish at the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve Golf Club last weekend.
The Memorial High School product finished the three-day, 54-hole tournament with a score of 8-under 208 to finish second against a field, which featured eight of the nation's Top-30 teams.
This was the first weekly award of her collegiate career.
Slaughter now ranks third on the team with a 73.67 scoring average and stands second among the Cougars with six rounds of par or better.
Slaughter became third different Cougar to win the team's fourth weekly American honor this season. She joined sophomore and two-time winner Karen Fredgaard and freshman Anne Normann.
UP NEXT
Slaughter and her Cougar teammates return to action when they tee off in the Bruzzy Challenge at Lantana Golf Club in Dallas on March 28-29.
From there, Fredgaard will compete as an individual at the Augusta National Women's Amateur on April 1-4 in Augusta, Ga. She earned the invitation as one of the nation's premier amateur players.
