MESA, Ariz. – University of Houston freshman Anne Normann posted a 3-under 69 in Sunday's Final Round at the Clover Cup to move into a tie for seventh with a three-day score of 212.
Starting her day off No. 1 on the 6,184-yard, par-72 course at Longbow Golf Club, Norman began with five straight pars before running into a trouble with a bogey on No. 6.
She regained that stroke with a birdie on No. 8 and closed out her front nine with an eagle on the 474-yard, par-5 ninth hole. Following a bogey on No. 11, the Rungsted, Denmark, native rallied with a birdie on No. 12 and moved to 3-under with a birdie on the par-4 14th hole.
Normann endured her final bogey of the day on No. 15 and capped her tournament with a birdie on No. 18 to join Oklahoma's Hannah Screen in a tie for seventh.
As a team, the Cougars shot a score of 291 in the Final Round to finish sixth at 874. Host Arizona State captured the team title with a score of 848 to finish three shots ahead of Arizona. UNLV (867), Clemson (869) and Oklahoma (871) rounded out the Top-Five leaders.
Normann wasn't the only Cougar to enjoy red numbers on Sunday. Sophomore Karen Fredgarard finished with a 71 and tied for ninth at 3-under 213. It was her third straight Top-10 finish to start the spring season.
Fredgaard started her day with six straight pars before a birdie on No. 7 and, like Normann, closed her front nine with an eagle on the ninth hole
After running into trouble on the first four holes of her back nine, the Asserbo, Denmark, native sank birdies on two of her last four holes to tie for ninth with Ya Chun Chang (Arizona), Annabelle Pancake (Clemson) and Samantha Fuller (UNLV).
Senior Ariana Saenz tied for 42nd at 226, while junior Annie Kim tied for 45th at 227. Freshman Delaney Martin tied for 62nd at 231.
Arizona State's Linn Grant earned medalist honors at 9-under 207 to finish one stroke ahead of teammate Olivia Mehaffey. Arizona's Vivian Hou and Clemson's Ivy Shepherd tied for third at 209.
UP NEXT
Following the Clover Cup, the Cougars continue their trip to the West when they compete at the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve in Saddlebrooke, Ariz. Hosted by Missouri and Kansas State, the three-day, 54-hole event will be held March 19-21.
From there, Houston returns to action when it tees off in the Bruzzy Challenge at Lantana Golf Club in Dallas on March 28-29.
