Houston took 3-of-4 on the road including a series victory at Texas State, moving the Cougars to 10-5 on the season … Houston hit .309 on the week, scoring 42 runs in four contests … the Cougars continued their strong effort defensively, committing just two errors for a .986 fielding percentage … Houston pushed across five runs in two different innings and totaled 15-plus hits for the third time this season while holding off Incarnate Word, 13-7 on Wednesday night at Sullivan Field … Houston scored three runs in four different innings including three straight frames while Ian McMillan swatted a three-run home run as the Cougars took the series opener against Texas State, 12-3, Friday night at Bobcat Ballpark … Houston starter Robert Gasser (2-1) struck out a career-high 10 batters and allowed just one run on three hits in 6.0 innings … the 10 strikeouts were the most for a Houston pitcher since Aaron Fletcher fanned 11 against USF on April 7, 2018 … Texas State swatted seven home runs, including three from Cole Coffey, capitalizing on gusting winds at Bobcat Ballpark to defeat Houston, 15-9 and even the three-game series on Saturday afternoon … the result spoiled a spectacular afternoon from Houston outfielder Steven Rivas (3-for-5) who clobbered two home runs, including a grand slam with two away in the ninth inning … Houston put up a pair of crooked numbers in the middle frames to overcome a four-run deficit, defeating Texas State, 8-7 to claim the three-game series on Sunday afternoon … the Cougars (10-5) scored seven consecutive runs between the fourth and fifth innings en route to claiming their third series victory in four tries … with the tying run on third and one out in the ninth, Cougar closer Derrick Cherry induced a 4-6-3 double play, helped by an outstretched Ryan Hernandez at first base ... Houston returns to Schroeder Park on Tuesday, hosting Texas A&M at 6:30 p.m. before hitting the road for three games at Oklahoma.
