Series Win in San Marcos

The Cougars (10-5) scored seven consecutive runs between the fourth and fifth innings en route to claiming their third series victory in four tries. Outfielder Brandon Uhse (2-for-4) provided run-scoring doubles in both the fourth and fifth, finishing with three RBIs.
With the tying run on third and one out in the ninth, Cougar closer Derrick Cherry induced a 4-6-3 double play, helped by an outstretched Ryan Hernandez at first base. Cherry left the bases loaded in the seventh on back-to-back strikeouts and stranded a runner at second in the eighth while earning his first save of the season.
Houston returns to action Tuesday against Texas A&M from Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+ and heard on Stretch Live. After Uhse brought Houston within one on a two-RBI double in the fourth, outfielder Tyler Bielamowicz knotted things up on a sacrifice fly. One inning later, Will Pendergrass provided Houston the lead, shooting an RBI-single through the right side.
Houston sent eight batters to the plate in the fourth in a frame that was jump started by Ryne Edmondson's first hit as a Cougar. In the fifth, Edmondson walked and scored.
Texas State (6-10) scored four two-out runs in the third inning including a two-run home run from Johnny Gonzales. The long ball was the right fielder's second in as many games and put the Bobcats ahead 5-1.
Houston reliever Jaycob Deese (2-1) earned the win, allowing one run on three hits while working around a pair of walks in 3.0 innings. Starter Cameron Prayer permitted five runs on as many hits while striking out five and walking a pair in 3.0 innings.
