MESA, Ariz. – University of Houston sophomore Karen Fredgaard stood in a tie for seventh following the Second Round of the Clover Cup at Longbow Golf Club on Saturday afternoon.
Fredgaard tied with freshman Anne Normann for the Cougars' low round of the day with a 73 Saturday on the 6,184-yard, par-72 layout and took advantage of two birdies on her final three holes to join UNLV teammates Veronica Joels and Samantha Fuller and Arizona's Ya Chun Chang in a group at 142.
Normann overcame a challenging start, which saw her post a double-bogey 7 on her first hole of the day. Rebounding from a double bogey and triple bogey to start her back nine, the Rungsted, Denmark, native birdied three of her final four holes to move into a tie for 11th at 1-under 143 with Oklahoma's Hannah Screen, Grand Canyon's Carmen Belmonte and Arizona State's Alessandra Fanali.
As a team the Cougars stood in fourth with a 36-hole score of 583. Arizona continued to hold the team lead at 11-under 565 to finish the second day six strokes ahead of Arizona State. UNLV stood in third at 576 with Oklahoma (584) and Clemson (588) rounding out the Top-Six leaders.
Clemson's Ivy Shepherd held the individual lead at 7-under 137 to stand a stroke ahead of Arizona State's Linn Grant. Arizona State's Alexandra Forsterling and Arizona's YuSang Hou were tied for third at 139.
Senior Ariana Saenz was tied for 20th at 147, while junior Annie Kim was tied for 40th at 151. Freshman Delaney Martin was tied for 61st at 156.

FINAL-ROUND PAIRINGS
The Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Oklahoma and Clemson off No. 1, beginning at 9 a.m. (CDT) Sunday.
Martin will start the day for the Cougars at 9 a.m. (CDT) with Kim (9:09 a.m.), Saenz (9:18 a.m.), Normann (9:27 a.m.) and Fredgaard (9:36 a.m.) following.

UP NEXT
Following the Clover Cup, the Cougars continue their trip to the West when they compete at the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve in Saddlebrooke, Ariz. Hosted by Missouri and Kansas State, the three-day, 54-hole event will be held March 19-21.
From there, Houston returns to action when it tees off in the Bruzzy Challenge at Lantana Golf Club in Dallas on March 28-29.
