Houston crushed 15 home runs across four games including setting a school record with eight at A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday … the Cougars hit .305 on the week and defensively committed just one error in 158 chances (.994 fielding) … on the mound, the staff went 3-1 with a 3.50 ERA including each of Houston's three starters permitting no more than two runs … Houston's 6-1 start is its best since starting 7-0 in 2015 … Houston junior Steven Rivas clubbed two home runs and the Cougars used a five-run second inning to race past A&M-Corpus Christi, 12-8 on Tuesday … with the win, Houston improved to 4-0 for the first time since 2016 … the Cougars, who swatted five home runs, scored double-digit runs in three consecutive games for the first time since March 5-8, 2013 … Houston was unable to cash in with runners aboard as the Cougars dropped their first contest of the season, 3-2 to A&M-Corpus Christi in the series opener Friday night from Whataburger Field … A&M-Corpus Christi starter Leo Perez (2-0) moved his scoreless-inning streak to 10.0 frames as the right-hander worked around four walks and fanned as many while allowing three hits … Houston established a new single-game home run record, crushing eight homers while evening the series in a 14-1 drubbing of A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday … junior Steven Rivas and freshman Will Pendergrass contributed two homers each … the long balls were the first for Pendergrass while Rivas upped his season total to six in as many contests … six Cougars connected for a home run including sophomore Brad Burckel who swatted a leadoff homer over the left field fence.
