Cougars win eighth match in a row
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Volleyball team won its eighth consecutive match on Thursday afternoon, sweeping Texas Tech in straight sets (25-17, 25-23, 26-24).
With the win, the Cougars (8-1, 4-0 AAC) are now 6-0 on the year in its home matches and improve their all-time series record against the Red Raiders (5-12, 5-11 Big 12) to 29-16. Thursday's victory also marks the third year in a row Houston has posted a winning streak of at least eight games.
Houston continued its season-long trend of jumping out to early advantages, as the Cougars have held a 2-0 match lead eight of its nine contests. Additionally, the win improves Houston's record to 14-3 in the David Rehr era when leading after two sets.

- After both teams battled things out to start the match, the Cougars opened up a five-point lead at 13-8, thanks in large part to sophomore outside hitter Abbie Jackson. During that 5-0 run, Jackson contributed three points with a couple of kills and a service ace.
- From there, Houston maintained its five-point edge until Texas Tech brought the score to within four at 16-12.
- The Cougars responded right away though, as another 5-0 run put Houston in front 21-12, where the Cougars never looked back in route to the 25-17 set victory.
- Texas Tech opened the set with an early 5-2 lead, but the Cougars wasted no time finding a rebuttal and responded with a 5-1 run to take a one-point lead of their own at 7-6.
- Neither team was able to gain more than at two-point edge on the other until a 4-0 run from Houston put the Cougars in front 23-19.
- After the Red Raiders battled back with a 3-0 run of their own, Houston closed out the set scoring two of the final three points to win 25-23 and take a 2-0 match lead.
- The Cougars jumped out to an 8-4 lead, but five unanswered points from the Red Raiders gave them their first advantage of the set at 9-8, before Houston scored three of the next four to reclaim a 12-9 edge.
- After the teams traded points through the middle part of the set, Texas Tech built a 20-18 lead, forcing a timeout from Houston.
- The Cougars never backed down and after trailing late in the set, Houston rallied back to win 26-24 and win the match 3-0.
