Houston swept Texas Southern, outscoring the Tigers, 30-9 on Opening Weekend … with the sweep, Houston improved to 32-0 all-time against Texas Southern while head coach Todd Whitting moved to 10-0 against the Tigers … the Cougars batted .354 as a team highlighted by 10 doubles, five home runs and 60 total bases … Ten student-athletes chipped in at least one hit including seven from Steven Rivas and six from Ryan Hernandez who each added two home runs … Cougar pitching limited Texas Southern to a .183 average (17-for-93) alongside a 2.33 ERA … Robert Gasser and Jaycob Deese each permitted just one hit and fanned seven with Gasser tossing five frames and Deese adding four … Blake Schultz fanned five in as many innings and earned the Game 3 victory … Thirteen student-athletes made their Cougar debuts.
