Cougars rank among nation’s best in first poll of spring season
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Golf program stood at No. 16 in the first Women's Golf Coaches Association Coaches' poll of the spring season.
The Cougars received 203 points in the poll to tie with Miami (Fla.).
In its spring opener, Houston tied for fifth at the UCF Challenge on Jan. 31-Feb. 2 in Orlando. Sophomore Karen Fredgaard posted three straight rounds of par or better and captured the first title of her career at 7-under 209.
The Cougars also stand at No. 17 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings with Fredgaard as the No. 4 player nationally.

The Cougars continue their spring schedule when they play host to the ICON Invitational, beginning Monday at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament opens Monday with 36 holes with the Final Round to be played Tuesday.
The Cougars will compete against an elite field, which features Baylor, Kent State, LSU, Michigan, North Texas, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Purdue, SMU, TCU Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State and Texas Tech.
Following the ICON Invitational, the Cougars will tee off at the Clover Cup at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz., on March 13-15.
JOIN the P.A.R. 4 CLUB
Fans are invited to join The P.A.R. 4 Club to support Houston Women's Golf. P.A.R. 4 Club members provide financial support directly to Houston Women's Golf for needs beyond the program's operating budget.
Fans who join the P.A.R. 4 Club can begin receiving benefits for as little as $100 annually.
