New Season Awaits

Cougars begin 2021 campaign against Texas Southern
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Baseball program opens its 2021 season with a three-game series against Texas Southern from Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park beginning with Saturday's 11 a.m. doubleheader. Sunday's finale gets underway at 2 p.m.

All three contests will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Matt Thomas and Kyle Rogers on the call. ESPN+ is available for $5.99 per month or $59.99 annually and can be streamed with the ESPN app on Apple, Android, and Amazon Fire devices, Roku and Samsung Smart TV among other devices. Fans can also listen in to Shaun Bijani on the call via Stretch.

Due to COVID-19 protocols outlined by Houston Athletics, attendance for the 2021 season will be pass-list only and limited to the student-athletes and coaches of the home and visiting teams. These protocols are subject to change and Houston Athletics will continue to monitor the need for adjustments to the attendance policy.

The Cougars are 29-0 all-time against Texas Southern including 28-0 at home. Whitting is 7-0 vs. Texas Southern. This weekend marks the first three-game series between the two teams. The two teams' last multi-game series was a doubleheader on April 14, 1987.

Houston ranks 22nd nationally with 245 wins since 2014. The mark is second in the American Athletic Conference, trailing only ECU (247). Houston's five conference titles since 2014 ranks second in Texas and eighth in the country.

Houston leads all American Athletic Conference schools with 14 top prospects among the league for their respective draft classes according to Perfect Game. The Cougars boast an AAC-best nine top 2021 prospects and a conference-best four for 2022. Houston has one top representative in the 2023 class.
