Track adds Hawkins, Davis to 2022 signing class

Comari Hawkins and Aaron Davis will join the Houston track and field teams in 2022
HOUSTON – Comari Hawkins and Aaron Davis have signed Letters of Intent to join the Houston Track and Field team in 2022 head coach Leroy Burrell announced Monday.Â
"We are very excited to announce the addition of Comari Hawkins and Aaron Davis to our 2022 recruiting class," head coach Leroy Burrell said. Â "As I mentioned in the announcement of our first group of future Cougars, we were very targeted on our recruiting efforts to bring in athletes that we are ready to compete in the Big 12. Â Comari and Aaron meet that criteria as they both bring national caliber credentials on the track and are excellent students in the classroom."Â
Hawkins and Davis add to a strong 2022 signing group including sprinters Hawkins and Cesley Williams; jumps and huddler Davis; discuss and shot putter Shanice Hutson; distance runner Brenda Tuwei and three pole vaulters Nikolette Schmidt, Aubrey Tupper and Lauren Reed.
Houston previously signed the other six athletes in early November. Those athletes' profiles can be found here.Â
"I'm so excited to work Cesley Williams and Comari Hawkins," assistant coach Carl Lewis said. "We've focused on building the women's team and they look to fit right in. They both know exactly what they want to accomplish and we're going to get it done together. Aaron Davis can make an immediate impact when he arrives next fall. He is one of the best long jumpers in the country and his hurdling is also what impressed me. He will be a welcome part of an exciting jump group."

Hawkins comes to us from East Lansing High School where she is coached by Charles Pollard and Track Life University Summer track club. She was a state finalizing the 100 and 200 meters and went on the make the final in the 200 and 400 at the AAU Junior Olympics. Most notably, she ran on two national record-setting relay teams for her club and anchored the 4x400 in an amazing come from behind victory with a 52.04 split. Also notable, Comari's father is Courtney Hawkins an assistant football coach at Michigan State University.

Summer Creek HS | Humble, Texas | Hurdles and JumpsÂ

Davis comes to us from Summer Creek HS in Humble, Texas where he was a big part of the Bulldogs winning the UIL 6A State Championship. Davis is coached by University of Houston Track and Field alumni Shelton Ervin who was named United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National High School Coach of the Year for the 2021 season. Aaron will be a huge contributor to our hurdles and jumps group. Â
"I cannot express enough how absolutely thrilled I am with the great work that the coaching and support staff did in recruiting our 2022 class. Our program has transitioned to a point where we are not only developing athletes to compete at the highest levels but that success has allowed us to recruit very high profile athletes making the future very bright for #HTownSpeedCity!"
