HOUSTON − The University of Houston softball team unveiled a difficult 54-game schedule on Monday which includes 33 games inside Cougar Softball Stadium and 21 games against 2021 NCAA Tournament teams.
The Cougars played the 58th-toughest schedule in 2021 and have backed up that schedule with 21 games against 10 different 2021 NCAA Tournament teams in 2022. The most challenging stretch of the schedule covers the final 12 games of the schedule, which are all against 2021 tournament teams, with five of the 12 on the road.
Highlighted by three games against defending national champion Oklahoma, two in Houston and one in a neutral site game in Oklahoma City, the Cougars play 10 games against Power 5 conference schools with three different Big 12 opponents, two Big 10 opponents, an SEC opponent and a Pac-12 opponent.
Houston will host three different tournaments in Cougar Softball Stadium including Opening Day against UTSA on Feb. 11 in the Houston Invitational. The Cougars will begin the Houston Classic tournament against Oklahoma on Feb. 18. The third-straight weekend with a home tournament sees UH host Northern Colorado in the Houston Tournament.
The Houston Invitational features UTSA, Texas Tech and Dayton. The Houston Classic features Oklahoma, McNeese and Texas State. The Houston Tournament will include Northern Colorado, Lamar, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Houston Baptist.
UH will hit the road following the three home tournaments, heading to Sin City to play in the UNLV Tournament against Washington, UNLV and New Mexico State.
A doubleheader against Boise State on March 10 begins the mid-week slate before a three-game series with Northwestern State (Mar. 11-13).
The Cougars will then head to Oklahoma for the first of two trips to Texas' northern neighbor state to play in the Hall of Fame Classic hosted by Oklahoma. UH will play one game against Iowa, Indiana, San Diego and Oklahoma in that order before returning home to host Sam Houston in a mid-week doubleheader.
Houston starts the American Athletic Conference schedule on the road at Tulsa (Mar. 25-27) and visits fellow American opponents East Carolina (April 8-10) and South Florida (Apr. 29-May 1).
