Houston checks in at No. 24, ranked for first time since 2016
HOUSTON – Behind nine consecutive victories, including wins in its first seven American Athletic Conference contests, Houston Football cracked the College Football Playoff Selection Committee Rankings at No. 24, unveiled Tuesday night.
The Cougars, currently No. 17 in the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Poll, are ranked by the College Football Playoff selection committee for the first time since Nov. 29, 2016, when they also checked in at No. 24.
Houston (9-1 overall, 7-0 The American) is in the midst of its longest win streak since Jan. 2-Nov. 14, 2015 (11 consecutive). The Cougars' nine-game win streak is the fourth longest active nationally and the sixth longest in program history.
The Cougars cap the regular season home slate at 8 p.m. Friday against Memphis. With a win, Houston would improve to 8-0 in conference play for just the second time in program history (2011). Houston, which has locked up a spot in The American Championship game on Dec. 4, is aiming for its first 10-win season since 2015.
