HOUSTON – Kellynn Wilson has joined the University of Houston Athletics Department as Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services, Vice President for Athletics Chris Pezman announced on Wednesday.
"We are excited to welcome Kellynn to our Houston Athletics family," Pezman said. "UH Athletics has seen continued success from our student-athletes in the classroom and we hope to build upon that progress. We look forward to Kellynn's leadership to help our student-athletes continue to grow and achieve success in the classroom as well as in life."
Wilson will coordinate all aspects of the Dominic and Ellen Ng Academic Center for Excellence, while also serving as the department's liaison for academic matters with various university groups including admissions, provost, undergraduate studies, faculty and academic advisors.
"The University of Houston has always been an institution that I have highly regarded both academically and athletically," Wilson said. "I am truly excited to lead the academic services unit and to seek educational social justice for all Houston student-athletes."
Wilson spent the last year at Eastern Michigan University as the Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Support Services where she served as a member of the executive staff with oversight of academic services for 18 EMU athletics programs.
Prior to her time at EMU, she spent five years at Penn State in a number of roles, including as the associate director of the Morgan Academic Center for Student-Athletes. Wilson provided direct support for the men's and women's basketball programs and managed the educational programming and curriculum development of eight student-athlete transitional courses.
Wilson also served as the director of student-athlete services at the University of Saint Louis from 2013-14, where she was responsible for the oversight of all aspects of student-athlete academic support and development.
Wilson began her career at the University of Louisville as a compliance assistant in 2005 before joining the Olga S. Peers Academic Center for Student-Athletes in 2007 as academic counselor before being promoted to assistant director in 2011. She also served as lecturer in the Health & Sports Studies Department from 2008-13.
Wilson was a part of the 2017 NCAA Leadership Institute as well as the 2013 N4A Professional Development Institute.
She is currently pursuing her doctorate in education. Wilson earned two degrees from Louisville, a bachelor's in exercise science (2005) and a master's in education (2008).
