Senior wide receiver picks up additional preseason honors
HOUSTON – Houston senior wide receiver Marquez Stevenson has been named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award watch list, the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler announced Wednesday.
Since 2012, the award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.
Nominees must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas high school and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year Division I Texas college.
Stevenson is a two-time American Athletic Conference first-team honoree. A season ago, the Shreveport, Louisiana, native was third in The American with nine touchdown receptions. He led Houston with 52 receptions and 907 receiving yards one season after producing five 100-plus yard receiving games and 1,019 receiving yards. He also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.
The recognition is the latest for Stevenson who is on the Top 250 watch list for the Reese's Senior Bowl, the nation's most prestigious college all-star game.
