Houston newcomers recognized by Collegiate Baseball
HOUSTON – Houston Baseball's 2020 recruiting class has been ranked tops in the American Athletic Conference and No. 24 nationally by Collegiate Baseball, the publication announced Friday.
The Cougars welcomed 29 newcomers this fall including 20 transfers. The class features student-athletes from nine states: Texas (19), Georgia (2), Missouri (2), Arizona (1), California (1), Florida (1), Nevada (1), Rhode Island (1) and South Carolina (1).
Houston, which has finished top three in The American during six of seven seasons for ERA and WHIP, continued to reload on the bump, bringing in 17 pitchers. The Cougars also added six outfielders, three infielders, a pair of utility players and one catcher.
"This is a tremendous class with great depth all over the diamond," Houston head coach Todd Whitting said. "I am thrilled that the relentless effort in recruiting by the staff, led by Associate Head Coach Terry Rooney, was recognized on a national level."
Houston enters the 2021 season boasting five conference titles since 2014, a mark that ranks second in Texas and eighth nationally. The program has paced The American in conference wins (84) and NCAA Tournament appearances (4) in that timeframe.
