Amanda Elich, Karen Fredgaard & Brooke McDougald named WGCA All-American Scholars
For their impressive work in the classroom throughout the 2019-20 season, University of Houston Women's Golfers Amanda Elich, Karen Fredgaard and Brooke McDougald were honored Monday as Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars.
The Houston trio joined more than 1,400 women's collegiate golfers in receiving the prestigious honor. With a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50, criteria for selections are some of the most stringent in collegiate athletics.
This marked the sixth straight season that at least one Houston women's golfer received WGCA All-American Scholar honors under Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell. It also marked the fourth consecutive year in which multiple Cougars earned the award.

AMANDA ELICH
A four-year letterwinner, Elich posted a 3.65 cumulative GPA while earning a place on the UH Dean's List in 2019-20 and received her bachelor's degree in business in May.
Elich competed in four tournaments before the season was abruptly canceled in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Elich was named a WGCA All-American Scholar for the third consecutive season, joining Leonie Harm and Megan Thothong as the only Cougars to achieve that accomplishment.

KAREN FREDGAARD
Competing in her first collegiate season, Fredgaard compiled a 3.76 GPA in exploratory studies and was a member of the UH Dean's List. She received the honor for the first time in her career.
On the course, Fredgaard was a leader for the Cougars throughout the season. The Asserbo, Denmark, native led Houston with a 71.33 scoring average and 12 rounds of par or better.
Fredgaard fired a career-low 68 four times while earning three Top-10 finishes, including a second-place showing at the White Sands Invitational in the Bahamas to close the fall season. At that tournament, she fired three straight rounds in the 60s to finish at 11-under 205.

BROOKE McDOUGALD
McDougald joined the Cougars in 2019-20. Studying sports administration in graduate school, she earned a 4.0 GPA.
On the course, McDougald competed in five tournaments and tied for 21st at the White Sands Invitational in October 2019. She fired season-low 71s in the Final Rounds of the Mason Rudolph Championship and the White Sands Invitational
McDougald received the honor for the first time in her career at Houston. She previously earned the accolade twice at TCU before joining the Cougars.
