Cougar duo earns academic postseason honors
HOUSTON – University of Houston Men's Golf senior George Gardner and junior Alexander Frances recently were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for the 2019-20 season.
The Cougars were two of 614 student athletes, including 376 from NCAA Division I, to earn the postseason academic honor. It was the first Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar accolade for each.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20 only, they must participate in 40 percent of the team's competitive rounds.
This marked the fourth consecutive season and the sixth time in the last seven years that at least one Houston student-athlete received this honor under Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke.

GEORGE GARDNER
Gardner has posted a 3.59 cumulative grade-point average in marketing and graduated magna cum laude during his collegiate career. He will soon be a five-time member of the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team and was named to the UH Dean's List seven times.

The Southlake, Texas, native earned five Top-20 finishes including a team-best second-place showing at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational in mid-March before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the remainder of the season.
He tied his career-low with a 66 in the Second Round of the Bentwater Intercollegiate on Oct. 7, 2019, on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Fla., and equaled his 54-hole career low of 6-under 210 at the White Sands Invitational at Ocean Club in Nassau, Bahamas, to lead the Cougars to the team championship on Nov. 1-3.
