HOUSTON – Houston punter Dane Roy, who completed his playing career in November, has been named to the National Football Foundation's (NFF) Hampshire Society on Wednesday.
Membership is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers.
Roy appeared in 50 career games and earned his Bachelor's degree in communications/advertising in Dec. 2019. He was also named CoSIDA Academic All-District in 2019.
The punter was a four-year letterwinner and a finalist for the 2019 Ray Guy Award. Roy also was named the 2019 American Co-Special Teams Player of the Year. He set the UH single-season record for punting average (46.9) in 2019.
The NFF Hampshire Honor Society capitalizes on the NFF's current National Scholar-Athlete program by greatly expanding the number of student-athletes the NFF can recognize each year. Jon F. Hanson, the chairman and founder of The Hampshire Companies and NFF Chairman Emeritus, provided the endowment to launch the NFF Hampshire Honor Society in 2007. Celebrating its 14th year in 2020, the initiative has previously honored 10,695 student-athletes since its inception.
