Take a look back at some of the biggest moments in Houston Athletics history
As we continue to cope with the suspension of college athletics around the country, Houston Athletics wants to look back at some of the most memorable moments in program history. Each day, we'll remember the greats like Phi Slama Jama, conference tournament championships and the success of our student-athletes.

The Cougar punched their ticket to the 1984 NCAA Championship game behind 17 points from Michael Young in a 49-47 overtime win against Virginia in Seattle's Kingdome.
It was the third straight appearance for Houston in the national title game, where they would later take on No. 2-ranked Georgetown.

In 2002, women's basketball made a deep postseason run led by Chandi Jones and Valerie Muoneke. The Cougars defeated Virginia Tech to advance the WNIT Championship game. Houston fell 54-52 to eventual champion Oregon. Jones scored 16 points in the WNIT Championship game, while Muoneke earned all-tournament team honors.

Hakeem Olajuwon was nearly perfect from the floor as the Cougars defeated Wake Forest, 68-62, in St. Louis to advance to the program's third straight Final Four on March 25, 1984. Olajuwon scored 29 points on 14-of-16 shooting and pulled down 12 rebounds along with three blocks.
Michael Young also finished in double figures, scoring 15 points on 7-of-18 shooting, while Reid Gettys dished 10 assists.

Corey Davis Jr. scored 21 points to led Houston to a 74-59 win over Ohio State on March 24, 2019 in Tulsa. Galen Robinson added 13 points, six steals, five assists and three rebounds.
The victory advanced the Cougars to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1984.

Rob Williams scored 25 points as the Cougars defeated Boston College, 99-92, to advance to Phi Slama Jama's first Final Four. It marked a run of three consecutive Final Four appearances for Houston.
Larry Micheaux added 18 points, while Clyde Drexler recorded 15 points. Reid Gettys made 10 free throws over the final seven minutes to seal the win.

Brad Lincoln recorded his first shutout of the 2006 season in a 7-0 win over Marshall to open C-USA play. Lincoln struck out eight as he held Marshall to just three hits. Lincoln would go on to finish the season with a 12-2 record and 1.69 ERA.
2006 was highlighted by the magical year of Brad Lincoln. Lincoln was honored as the Dick Howser Trophy Winner as National Player of the Year. He was also honored by ABCA/Rawlings, Rivals.com and CSTV.com as National Player of the Year. Lincoln was named C-USA Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-C-USA, along with Isa Garcia and Matt Weston. Travis Cougot was named to the conference's All-Freshman team. Houston finished the year ranked No. 21 in the nation and Lincoln was the No. 4 overall draft pick in the 1st round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft.

The Cougars opened the NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional in Tulsa, Okla., with wins over Alcorn State and No. 10 Tulsa. A week later, UH escaped with a 79-78 win over No. 5 Missouri and claimed a 99-92 win over Boston College to advance to the NCAA Final Four.
During their NCAA Final Four showdown against No. 1 North Carolina, the Cougars competed in front of 61,612 at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. That remains the biggest crowd to watch a Cougar Basketball game and is nearly 10,000 fans more than the closest competitor, the Game of the Century against UCLA in 1968.
