THE WOODLANDS, Texas – University of Houston freshman Karen Fredgaard posted an even-par 72 during Tuesday's Final Round at the ICON Invitational to tie for 12^th with a 54-hole score of 216 and lead the Cougars at The Woodlands Country Club.

Fredgaard recorded the fourth Top-20 individual finish of her young career, thanks to four birdies, including back-to-back efforts on Nos. 8-9 on the 6,392-yard Tournament Course.

As a team, the 32^nd-ranked Cougars finished with a total of 291 and stood in eighth at 876.

No. 5 Kent State captured the team championship with a score of 854 to finish seven shots ahead of Purdue. No. 37 Texas A&M (864), No. 1 Texas (866) TCU (872), North Texas (873) and Tulsa (875) rounded out the Top-7 with No. 23 Texas Tech (880) and No. 20 Virginia Tech (882) rounding out the Top 10.

Tulsa's Lorena Tseng earned medalist honors with a score of 7-under 209, thanks to a Final-Round 67. Purdue's Sifat Sagoo finished second at 210, while Kent State teammates Caley McGinty and Pimnipa Panthong placed third and fourth at 210 and 211, respectively.

Houston sophomore Maria Jose Martinez fired the team's low round of the day with a 70. The Alvarado, Mexico, native overcame a bogey on her first hole of the day at No. 6 to post three birdies in a 6-hole stretch midway through the Final Round.

Martinez tied 15^th with a score of 218 for her second Top-20 showing of the season.

Senior Brooke McDougald finished 39^th at 222, while junior Ariana Saenz and sophomore Annie Kim tied for 54^th at 227. Competing as an individual, senior Amanda Elich tied for 65^th at 232.

UP NEXT
Following the ICON Invitational, the Cougars head west to compete at the Clover Cup on March 13-15 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.

From there, the team will tee off at the Evans Derby Experience, hosted by Auburn at Auburn University Club on March 27-29.
