Women’s Golf Ready to Host ICON Invitational

Cougars tee off Monday morning at The Woodlands Country Club against elite field
THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The University of Houston Women's Golf program welcomes some of the nation's premier teams to the greater Houston area when it plays host to the ICON Invitational, beginning Monday morning at The Woodlands Country Club.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins with 36 holes Monday with the Final Round teeing off Tuesday morning. Teams will begin with an 8 a.m., shotgun start each day on the 6,392-yard, par-72 Tournament Course.
The Cougars enter their home tournament following a fifth-place finish at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans on Feb. 17-18. Junior Ariana Saenz fired three straight rounds of par or better to finish in a tie for third at 5-under 214.

THE FIELD
Houston will compete against an elite field, which features six Top-40 teams, including the 32nd-ranked Cougars.
The remaining teams include No. 1 Texas, No. 5 Kent State, No. 20 Virginia Tech, No. 23 Texas Tech, No. 37 Texas A&M, Kennesaw State, North Texas, Purdue, SMU, TCU, Texas State, Tulsa and UTSA.
THE LINEUP
Under the leadership of defending American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Gerrod Chadwell, Houston will be represented by junior Ariana Saenz, sophomore Annie Kim, sophomore Maria Jose Martinez, freshman Karen Fredgaard and senior Brooke McDougald.
Senior Amanda Elich will compete as an individual.
This season, Fredgaard leads the Cougars with a 71.20 scoring average and 10 rounds of par or better, including five in the 60s. The Asserbo, Denmark, native was recently invited to compete at the prestigious Augusta National Women's Amateur in early April.

Following the ICON Invitational, the Cougars head west to compete at the Clover Cup on March 13-15 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
From there, the team will tee off at the Evans Derby Experience, hosted by Auburn at Auburn University Club on March 27-29.
